Forage Fish Sampling

Forage Fish Sampling

With Project Watershed

Help uncover the hidden life along our shorelines! 🌊

Project Watershed is calling on volunteers to join their spring and summer forage fish sampling sessions across the Comox Valley and Campbell River. This hands-on citizen science initiative is all about protecting vital beach-spawning forage fish like surf smelt — a critical food source for salmon and marine wildlife. Volunteers will help collect and process sand samples right on the beach using simple techniques like sieving and vortexing. It's a great way to contribute to marine conservation while enjoying time outdoors. Training is provided, and there’s even an opportunity to step into a leadership role if you're interested.
